1st Choice Roofing is a Florida roofing contractor serving homeowners and businesses throughout Tampa Bay, the Nature Coast, and surrounding communities. The company was founded in 2004 by Ken Phillips, but Ken’s roofing experience began more than a decade earlier.

Ken began roofing in Florida in 1992 while working his way through college. He spent his days doing roofing work in the Florida heat and attended school at night, later earning an Associate degree in Liberal Arts from St. Petersburg College. Those early years gave him firsthand knowledge of the trade and of what roofing work demands from the people who perform it.

Ken later built a career in corporate sales, management, and team leadership. At GE Financial Assurance, he received the Diamond Award, a management honor based on nominations from peers and employees. The recognition reflected a lesson that would shape 1st Choice Roofing: successful companies are built by helping people, developing strong teams, and taking care of the customers they serve.

In 2004, while still working at The Home Depot, Ken founded 1st Choice Roofing. The company brought together his hands-on roofing background and his experience leading people and managing a business. From the beginning, the goal was to help property owners understand their options, solve roofing problems correctly, and have a better contractor experience.

Ken has personally installed each major roofing system the company offers, and he still climbs roofs and works in the field when a situation calls for it. His construction experience also extends beyond roofing: 1st Choice Roofing has completed kitchen and bathroom remodels and home additions. That broader perspective matters because a roof is part of an entire building system—not an isolated component.

Ken personally holds Florida Certified Roofing Contractor license CCC1327354 and Florida Certified Building Contractor license CBC1253663. The company is also an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor and a GAF Certified Weather Stopper Contractor.

Today, 1st Choice Roofing provides roof repair, roof replacement, asphalt shingle, metal, tile, flat and low-slope, and commercial roofing services. The service area includes Tampa, Spring Hill, Brooksville, Hudson, New Port Richey, Port Richey, Clearwater, Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs, Wesley Chapel, and surrounding Florida communities.
